Karelian memorial stone

The karelian memorial stone was established by the ostrobothnians together
with the karelians of the province. A lot of karelians who evacuated from the Finnish Karelia during the wars resettled to the province of ostrobothnia as well as all over Finland.
More information about Karelia.

Old ostrobothnian house

I believe this is the main building of an old farm. I don't know exactly how old it is, but my guess is around 150-200 years. Almost all of the farm houses of that time were log houses.

The wooden poorboy

This is a detail seen in one of the earlier photoes. In finnish "Vaivaisukko" is s a wooden boy standing by the church of Nurmo. These statues can be found in many churches in Finland. The wooden statue has a coin-sized hole in it and people can donate money for the parish.

Hundred posts

Yippee, One hundred posts.

Kirkonkranni

This is the local parish office. The building is called "Kirkonkranni", which is dialect for "Kirkon naapuri". That means "The neighbour of the church". I don't know the meaning of the statue, but I'm going to find out.

Baron Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim Marshal of Finland

I believe almost every city in Finland has a street or statue, or both for Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim, who was one of Finlands presidents and a Commander in chief during world war II.

Wrestling

The national wrestling statue. This statue was revealed in 1984. The area where Seinäjoki is located (South Ostrobothnia) has always had good wrestlers e.g. Jouko Salomäki and Marko Yli-Hannuksela.

Waiting for demolition

This functional style house stands in the way of the new library. In the last years it has served as an additional office space for different functions of the city. The library is being built behind it. If I have understood correctly, it will be demolished as soon as the library is ready.

Duck Pond

This pond used to have a lot of ducks before, wild and domestic(the white ones).  It was even called the duck pond. Now there are only few wild ones. I don't know who used to bring the white ducks but they do not seem to appear anymore. It was fun feeding them as a kid.
