A company called "Lakeuden Lasi", "Glass of the plains" used to operate here a long while ago. I don't even remember how long ago it was. I quess this building is also to be torn down in some time.

Oldish house
Posted by
JK
This old house resides along the Jaakkolantie street. It's one of the "oldest" streets in Seinäjoki. One scene of the "Talvisota" movie was shot there in the 80's. The houses are all run-down and I think they will be demolished shortly.

I'm not sure but this might be the only Ferrari in town. There might be another one, a bit older, but I've not see it in traffic for a long time.

This is the demolition of Itikka meat factory. I've posted a photoes from this huge demolition once before. Also I have one photo of the factory before the demolition started. The one above came a bit dramatic with the backlighting. I wonder how they are going to bring down the chimney. I would like see when it is done.

Sunset of the plains

JK
The area where Seinäjoki is located is called "Lakeus", the "Plains". We don't have many hills or mountains here. This is the sunset of the plains. My contribution to the skywatch friday.

Railway stuff

Seinäjoki has always been an important railway crossing. On the bakcground of this image is the old roundhouse and if looked closely a turntable can be seen also. I have no clue what is the equipment behind the yellow locomotive.

Local transport
Posted by
JK
I've read that one of the definitions of a city is a working local transportation system. Well, we have a local transportation but I would have to say it's not very good. Buses run too infrequently and the routes are from the 80's or even 70's. The places where people work have changed a lot since then. So should the bus routes.

Kalevankatu, still under construction
Posted by
JK
When i posted this photo two and a half weeks ago, I promised to post regularly from the same spot. Today I remembered the promise and took another photo. The work seems to make progress. Too bad I had to shoot against the already setting sun, so the lighting is not very good.

This building is the old hospital. Nowadays among other functionalities it serves as the Musical Institute of Ostrobothnia. Also the Sibelius Academy has some functions here. The straircase and the tiling are brand new. It has been a very rainy and gray day. This photo was taken when there was a short pause in raining.

Small pond

JK
This pond is near the dugout posted yesterday. I had not been there for a while. These sings had appeared since the last visit. There are about a dozen of these and they have poems written on them. This poem is called "Särki ja sampi", "Roach and sturgeon". Sorry, I'm not gonna start translating it.

Dugout
Posted by
JK
This dugout was built only a few years ago. A trench surrounds it. It resides along the "unobstructed adventure sports route" at Jouppilanvuori. It is a very popular recreation area in Seinäjoki. The dugout is usually locked but it can be booked for different gatherings.

Fly Agaric
Posted by
JK
At the moment you can find these at the roots of the trees. It is a "kärpässieni", "Fly agaric" which is poisonous. It is easy to recognize and only rarely poisonous enough to kill.
Its white cousin "valkokärpässieni", the "European destroying angel" can also be found in Finland. It can be mixed up with some edible fungus, but it is deadly poisonous. Every now and then someone accidently pics it up, eats it and gets seriously ill...or even dies. Do not collect or eat any fungus that you don't know for sure.

It's time for lingon
Posted by
JK
Usually I try to post landscapes or views that describe a bigger picture. But now I have a close-up of some cowberries. Cowberry or lingonberry is a very common berry in finnish forests. They are almost ready and the pick-up has already began.
The finnish everyman's right gives everyone the possibility pick berries almost anywhere. Lately it has become somekind of a problem. Picking berries has become professional. Companies that make their profit out of the berrries have brought pickers from all over the world, with a mimimum wage.
This has upset the local people. Not only they collect all the berries in a very effective way, but they also tend to use means that cause harm to the twigs.

Theme day: People watching ... pesäpallo
Posted by
JK
A pesäpallo game (finnish baseball) is about to start. The audience is gathering. Too bad I didn't have time to wait for the game to start. Pesäpallo has some similarities with baseball but it is still pure finnish game. You can read more about it here in the wikipedia. The game that is about to start is between two local teams SMJ and Jymy. I think they are playing for qualification to the main leaque.
This is my contribution to the CDP Theme day. You can see here what others have posted.
