Crown Electricity
Posted by
JK
Some years ago, if I remember correctly, art students decorated some electrical cabins and transformers with crowns. I have no memory why they were decorated and why of all crowns.

It was the traditional Christmas Season Grand Opening event today. The town shops have been arranging it for as long as I know. Every year it culminates into some fireworks.

Old Granary
Posted by
JK
This is an old big granary. I think it nowdays serves as a storage for the fodder factory beneath it. This time of year it's always dark on weekdays when I get the camera out...that's why there is going to be some indoor and night shots on this blog. Soon we will have the first snow and you will see a photo of it(hopefully).

The old kiosk
Posted by
JK
This old kiosk stands in the center of Seinäjoki. There was an article about it in a local newspaper just a few days ago. It was originally kept by a foundation for disabled. It was written in the article that the city will still preserve it and keep it in shape.
It hasn't served as a kiosk for a while, because it doesn't meet the modern standards. It's too small. It has some art hanging on the windows and it even has a sign on the roof saying:"Kioski Galleria Karmi", meaning "Kiosk Gallery Frame".
In the article it was confirmed to be just a legend that there would be a secret access to an underground air-raid shelter from the kiosk. A city employee told that there is only a storage cellar of the size of the kiosk under it.
Sorry about the bad angle...the traffic signs are kinda disturbing.

Mystic river
Posted by
JK
This is the river near the place where I live. As you can see the river is not very wide and people from cities with "real" rivers cosider this as a creek. Here it is in it's narrowest, because what you see is only half of it. The other half flows behind the island seen on the left.

Funny Balconies

JK
Here is some unusual architecture, at least in Finland. The shape of the roof is not very common here and the colorful balconies make it even more unusual. If I remember right the apartments are for rent and they are heated partly with solar power and partly with geothermal energy.

Start of ice skating season

JK
The ice skating season has already started here. The temperature is around +10 C, so it can be concluded that this is not a natural ice field, it's artificial.
Rounded edges for a change

I did some tune up for the layout and gave it some rounded edges for a change. The old layout was kind of grayish for my taste.

All Saints' Day evening

JK
All Saints' Day or in finnish "Pyhäinpäivä" evening at the Seinäjoki Grave yard.
People bring lot of candles in memory of deceased loved ones.
This is the place where people can remember their love ones that have been buried somewhere else.
This angel stands along the urn grove and the walls have the names of the deceased.

I understand graffiti as art, when it's done well and with a permission. But somehow I don't understand these tags that usually are just a mess and done without any permissions. On the otherhand this rundown house doesn't get much worse with some tags on it.
