Christmas trees yet available
Posted by
JK
Some people have a tradition of stealing their christmas trees from somebody's forrest. Well that's not legal. Here you can by one. I guess it will cost about 30 to 40 euros to get one. I'm not really sure, cause we are privileged to get our christmas tree legally from a relative's forest.

Santa's train

This train took a group of people to Koskenkorva. Twice today. It is the Santa's train. You can see him stepping out of the train. Actually this is a train maintained by the Haapamäki Museum Locomotive Association. This engine is called "Pikku-Jumbo", "Little Jumbo" and it was built in 1947 by Tampella. Below you can see it leaving he station.

Itikka deleting finished
Posted by
JK
As I wrote before the company which was demolishing the old meat factory Itikka was called Delete. Well now the deleting is finished. Below you can see the "before" photo. Not exactly from the same spot, but I believe you will get the idea. I don't know if they will spare that much of the chimney. We'll see.
This is the same site from a different point of view. You can see the tree behind the sign on the right in the photo below.

The local transport regenerating
Posted by
JK
The operator of the local transport of Seinäjoki is changing in the new year. It has been operated by Veolia and will now be operated by Härmän liikenne. Veolia is a bigger company, operating in other towns and cities too. Härmän liikenne instead is a local company from Härmä, not far from Seinäjoki.
The local transport here hasn't really developed in the last 20 years. This change would maybe give a possibility for that. However there was some kind of mixup in the competition and everything can still go back the way it was. That would mean Veolia would continue.
Härmän liikenne branded their buses as "Komia liikenne" (Komia transport). "Komia" is a finnish dialectual word for handsome and it is used in the marketing of Seinäjoki area.

Big Kicksled
Posted by
JK
This is a kicksled for a giant.
Wikipedia says: The kicksled or spark is a small sled consisting of a chair mounted on a pair of flexible metal runners which extend backward to about twice the chair's length. The sled is propelled by kicking ("sparke" or "sparka" in the Scandinavian languages) the ground by foot. There is a handlebar attached to the top of the chair back. "Kicksled" is a direct translation of the Finnish word "potkukelkka". Some other possible translations are "kicker" and "chair-sled".
If you have ever used one of these(smaller ones) it might have been from Seinäjoki. The finnish manufacturer of kick sleds, Esla is located in the consolidated area of Seinäjoki.

Again from Itikka factory
Posted by
JK
As you can see this was taken before the snow came. This is the demolition site of the Itikka meat factory. I was kind of hoping they would bring down the chimney all at once (time informed in advance). However, if looked closely it can be seen that piece of it is already missing. Seems that they are bringin it slowly down piece by piece.
Dark winter times
Posted by
JK
I haven't got a very good excuse for not posting everyday now. But I have one: The days are getting very short and it's already dark here when you leave from work after office hours. I don't like posting "night shots" or indoor photos day after day. That's why there will not be a photo every day. I will still try my best in posting regularly in the winter time also.

XL food
Posted by
JK
I think this is kinda funny place for a restaurant. Even for a fast food restaurant. Meaning the building that has XL written on the window. It resides between different service sheds and you can buy for example a tractor or a steam shovel from the businesses in the neighborhood. The name of the restaurant, XL Buffa, might refer to a lunch buffet having pizza, kebab, fries etc..

Time for winter tires

Railcar
Posted by
JK
This kind of railcars are used on quieter railroutes. believe the railcar model is called dm12 and it can carry about 63 passengers. Too bad it was on the rear track so the van and the trailer block the view a bit. I have no idea why they are in between the tracks.

Still raining ...
Posted by
JK
It's has still been raining today. Not as much as yesterday and the day before, but still. This is not exactly in Seinäjoki. It is in Ilmajoki, the neighbouring municipality. This road had to be closed yesterday.
This is Pajuluoma today
This is Pajuluoma in Summer, I believe the water wasn't in it's normal level even then.
This is the river Seinäjoki near the techology center Frami yesterday. You can see only one row of stones on the edge.
This is the same place in summer. Here you can see three rows of stones and something else under them. So I would say the water is about 30-40 cm higher than usual in yesterdays photo.

Raining ...a lot.
Posted by
JK
It has been raining for a few days. Someone said we have had one month's rain in two days. There are roads flooding and water level still raises in the rivers. Firefighters are fighting the water out from a school's kitchen nearby. Even in our yard there is so much water that we are pumping it with a submersible pump that it will not flood our playhouse. I hope it will stop raining soon.

Oldish house
Posted by
JK
This old house resides along the Jaakkolantie street. It's one of the "oldest" streets in Seinäjoki. One scene of the "Talvisota" movie was shot there in the 80's. The houses are all run-down and I think they will be demolished shortly.

Sunset of the plains
