Gray sky and crane

Well here is a photo of a crane. This is a building site near the railway. Not much of a sky, but I will still post it to the Skywatch Friday. Officially autumn starts tomorrow.

Matinkuja Reflection

This is a small bridge crossing the river next to the technology center Frami. The building closest to it belongs to a electronics company called Epec. I don't know any other way to paint that graffiti than from a boat. This is also near my place of work.

Another view of Suojeluskuntatalo

This is the "Civil Guard House" in the center of Seinäjoki. I've posted one photo of it before. It holds a museum of Lotta Svärd organization. Wikipedia article about Lotta Svärd and Suojeluskunta.

Taxi queue

I don't know how this should be interpreted....two festival toilets and a taxi sign. Do you have to wait for taxi that long? Well, the truth is that this is from the parking lot of the new hospital extension and I guess the toilets are for the time of construction.

Bitten

Who has bitten this apple? Apples are beginning to be ripe.

Field Signs

This field signs can be seen from a bird watching tower. Hmm...maybe they are not done by aliens.

Rowan berries

This lazy photographer only walked out and took a photo of these rowan berries.

Dark clouds approaching

This is again from Hirvijärvi. Some dark clouds approaching...and it started raining. If I would turn around at this place the sky is all dark.

Birds on a wire ... well not anymore.

These birds were sitting on these electrical wire side by side. I tried to approach, but you can see what happened in the second photo. I didn't even get to see what birds they are. I'm not an ornithologist, so I can't recognize birds only by their silhouette. If someone can, please educate me.

View from the library window

When people visit the new library, this is one of the places where they can take a book and relax reading it. I think the view is very nice.

Time for some more street construction

This is Kalevankatu, "Kaleva street". The street is going to be reconstructed to be a pedestrian oriented street. This work has already began earlier in another section of the street and now it's time to continue. It will probably look something like this. I'll try to post a photo regularly from this same spot, so we can see how it progresses.

Grand opening

This is the day of the grand opening. The new long awaited library is finally open to the public. This is the main entrance. The building is called "Apila" as "The Clover". I believe you can see in this earlier photo why is that. I believe it was worth the waiting.  I only had a chance to pay a quick visit, but it sure looks nice.

As a bonus, here is a view from inside. These are the "reading stairs", where you can sit and read. As you can see the interior has a huge contrast between the white walls and the concrete ceiling. I'll post more detailed indoor shots later.

Everything seemed to be very modern. The borrowing and returining of books was self-serviced. That should leave the library clerks more time to guide the customers and advice them about the books. There is also a cafeteria, a large childrens section with a playroom and also some reading "foxholes" for the youth.

Playground mirror

This is a reflection of Seurahuone seen from one of the funny mirrors in a playground next to it. This is my first post linked to Weekend Reflection site. I'm sorry for the bad quality. I only had my cellphone with me and it has a crappy camera in it.

Campfire Sausage

People sometimes post images of food. Well I tought I'd post one too. This is from a Paukaneva recreation ground. There is a lean-to called Lehtisalo. We had a campfire and ate some sausage.

Hirvijärvi colorful sky

This is a view from the shore of the lake Hirvijärvi. Hirvijärvi is one of the artificial lakes in the area of Seinäjoki. It is not a common image as the trees are dark and the sky is clear. That was the purpose...to emphasize the sky and the lake. This is my first linking to the Skywatch Friday blog.

Need a new car?

You can buy one from Seinäjoki. We have a lot of car dealers here. In the photo we have some Fords, but you can find almost any brand. And ofcourse you can find a large selection of used cars also.

Rusting house

This is Frami F. The next extension to the Seinäjoki University of Applied Science. The business teaching will take place here. The architecture is a bit exceptional. The material installed on the surface will start rusting immediately...in purpose.

Seinäjoki hall

This is the outside of an auditorium called Seinäjoki-sali, Seinäjoki hall.  It is a music hall and a meeting space for 360 people. When it was built the acoustics were taken into account. I think it sounds ok, but I don't really know what professional musicians and listeners think of it.

It's located by the river and near the center of the city. The area is thought to be the campus area of Seinäjoki. A lot of students live in the neighbourhood and the Seinäjoki University of Applied Science is across the river.

Hospital Y-building

This is the new extension for the Hospital of Seinäjoki. The Y-Building as they call it. Among other functions it will have the new emergency room and some health center activity. I think it should be ready soon. This has been a big construction site near the Kyrkösjärvi lake. You can find official information about it here(in finnish). I photographed it earlier from the lake. You may notice the two removable toilets in the photo. I guess they are not here to stay.

A bonus photo from another point of view.

Predator fish

This wooden fish sculpture has appeared after my last visit to the playground at the Kyrkösjärvi beach with my kids. There are different wooden animals in the playgrounds around the city. I believe they have been made by the same artist. I took a photo of these rabbits last year. I should find out who is making them and give some credit to him/her.

Huge demolition

This is the biggest demolition site in the history of Seinäjoki. The old Itikka meat factory is being demolished. A large compex of homes and business buildings will be built there. The whole site shoud be dismantled by the end of this year. I think it is funny that the demolition company's name is "Delete".

Here is the factory in it's "glory" before the demolition started. Here you can get some idea about what will be built in the area. (The red buildings in the center of the image).

Air traffic

We are staying on the aviation subject. Seinäjoki has an airport. It's in the area of the neighbouring municipality Ilmajoki. This is an AIS Airlines Jetstream 32 operating for Direktflyg, a swedish air carrier.  It is coming from Helsinki. I waited a few minutes and saw one passenger come out of this plane.

There are three flights to Helsinki a day from this airport. It has been discussed a LOT, if there should be a flight route from Seinäjoki to Helsinki. Some say there must, many say there must not. This route is supported by the City of Seinäjoki with a huge amount of money.

Also some bigger planes fly out from this airport to Beach Resorts in Cyprus, Canary Islands and Malaga. Maybe I'll get a pic of a bigger plane some day.

You can take a balloon flight

I didn't even know that you can take a hot air balloon flight here. But yes you can. I witnessed this balloon leave today and it came to my knowledge that you can buy a ticket to a flight like this. If I understand correctly the next flights from Seinäjoki will happen in 17th and 18th of this moth. You can read more from here(in finnish).

Pajuluoma

In addition to the river Seinäjoki, also this small creek "Pajuluoma" flows trough the center of Seinäjoki.  A parkway goes along it about one kilometer starting from here. You can also see it flow at the top of this photo.

Going to Oulu

This is a finnish Pendolino train. It has left from Seinäjoki and I believe it's going to Oulu. This is an Italian train that has a maximum speed of 220 km/h. There has been a lot of problems with this train type. Especially in winter.

Vegetables

Although the marketplace of Seinäjoki isn't the most active one, there are still some vegetables being sold everyday in summertime. Here you have some finnish potatoes, onions, carrots, garlic, beetroot and turnip. The sellers are "Laihian pojat" as "Boys of Laihia". Laihia is a commune near Vaasa.

Old Music Store

At the moment this old ramshackle music store is in many people's lips. It has been covicted to demolition, but some people think it should be reconstructed and conserved. The music store Järvenpää moved few hundred meters away some time ago. A building company bought the old building and is planning a huge commercial building to replace it. This photo was taken with a cell phone, so I apologize the poor quality.

The Harley Owners Group's Finnish main event is currently held in Seinäjoki. After a parade ride many of the participants brought their rides on display to the marketplace of Seinäjoki.
